In an industry that lacks diversity Berry, founder of Podcasts In Color is bringing the voices of the underrepresented to the forefront.
Podcasts in Color is the largest podcast directory platform for podcasters of color, representing all genres from true crime, travel, and leisure, or pop culture.
Berry has also become one of the top podcast consultants in the industry helping major podcast players cultivate diverse talent as well as building shows.
A native of Denver, Colorado Berry has become one of the most influential people in the podcasting industry. In our exclusive interview with Berry on OPP with Corey Cambridge, she describes how she first got interested in podcasting,
“I was listening to podcasts while I was working in call centers and on my phone tweeting about the podcasts while getting in trouble.”
When asked about the origins of Podcasts In Color she states,
“I live in Denver, Colorado and I am always on social media so I understood that that was how I knew about podcasts. I have a lot of cousins and I would talk to them about podcasts and they would get recommendations from me. How does this grow? Maybe they go to a website? So I thought of making another place that might show up in Google search that might just bring a bigger idea that there are bigger podcasters of color that exist. There are so many apps it was so white that they couldn’t even see us.”
Even though we’re 10 years old, podcasting is still very much in its infancy. When we look back a few years from now I can’t help but think that Berry and Podcasts In Color will be known and remembered for ushering in a change in an industry that so desperately needed it.
Thank you Berry for being a voice for US!
